In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus continues the Sermon on the Mount by addressing the heart behind our worship, giving, fasting, prayer, and even our view of money. He warns against practicing righteousness to be seen by others, reminding us that God looks at our motives. We explore what it means to give in secret, pray sincerely, and trust God for our daily needs rather than worrying about tomorrow.

This commentary also examines the Lord’s Prayer, the call to forgive, storing up treasures in heaven, and Jesus’ teaching that we cannot serve both God and money. Ultimately, Matthew 6 challenges us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, resting in the truth that our heavenly Father knows what we need before we ask Him.

A commentary on Matthew chapter 5.

In this episode, Matthew chapter 5 marks the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, one of the most significant sections of Jesus’ teaching in the Gospels. In this chapter, Jesus describes the blessed life of those who belong to the Kingdom of Heaven through the Beatitudes, and He calls His disciples to be salt and light in the world. He explains that He did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill the law, showing that true righteousness goes beyond outward obedience to the law and reaches into the heart. The chapter addresses key ethical teachings such as anger, reconciliation, adultery, lust, divorce, the making of oaths and vows, retaliation, and loving your enemies. Jesus contrasts superficial righteousness with the call to be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect.

In this episode, Gary Eugene Howell explores Matthew chapter 4, where Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, resisting every temptation with the Word of God. We witness the start of His public ministry in Galilee, fulfilling prophecy by bringing light to those in darkness. Jesus calls His first disciples—Peter, Andrew, James, and John—inviting them to become fishers of men. He then travels throughout Galilee, teaching in synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
