And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. (Matthew 12:31-32)
“I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. (Luke 12:8-10)
What is the sin against the Holy Spirit? It is the person who, his whole life, rejected God and died without the Holy Spirit.
The blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is often misunderstood. Some people have assumed it means that if they say something bad about the Holy Spirit they are forever condemned from that moment on. Fortunately that’s not the case. But if at the moment a person’s life ends they were still refusing to acknowledge the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for them on the cross, and thereby disowned Him before men their whole life, that person will be disowned by God before the angels.
The blasphemy against the Holy Spirit means a person died having never been filled with the Holy Spirit. They rejected and disowned the Holy Spirit their whole life. Unfortunately that person will not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
