Bible Study by Ace ArmstrongGoing to church doesn’t make you a Christian, but not going to church makes you a non Christian.

Yes, it’s a bold statement and I recognize that there are many nuances and circumstances that could be discussed. However, consider this statement: Eating vegetables doesn’t make you a vegetarian but not eating at all makes you dead.

Does God Want Me to Be Single

Does God Want Me to Be Alone?

Woman alone in restaurant.Does God want me to be single? This is a great question and I’m excited to tell you that it has a very simple answer. Do you want to be single? Do you want to be alone? If the answer is no, then God doesn’t intend for you to be single the rest of your life.

Think about it this way. If you desire to be in a relationship, it was God who placed that desire within you.

So why then, are you still single?

Chapters of the Bible

Here is a free excel spreadsheet containing all the books and chapters of the bible.

And here’s why I created it:

For several years I was fully convinced that I had read the entire Bible. One day however, I realized that given my habit of reading a chapter here and a chapter there, skipping around from New Testament to Old, I had no real proof that I had, in fact, read the whole bible. There could have easily been some verses, chapters or even an Old Testament book or two that I hadn’t read. I created this spreadsheet and started filling it out each time I finished a chapter.

It has all the books of the Bible listed on the left hand column and each book’s chapter numbers written across the rows. When I read a chapter, I highlight the number in yellow on the spreadsheet. When the whole spreadsheet is highlighted, I know I’ve read the entire Bible. This allows me to skip around in the Bible wherever I want or am lead, and I can keep track of what I have and haven’t read each year.

I also place my starting date at the top which allows me to keep track of how long it takes me to go through the Bible each time.

How Many Times Has the Bible Been Changed

Can the Bible Be Trusted?

Dead Sea Scroll -- the World's Oldest SecretsMost everyone has heard of the telephone game in which a person whispers a message to another, which is passed along a line of people until the last person announces the message to the group. The curious and often funny part of the game is that when the last person announces the message out loud, everyone discovers that it has dramatically changed from what they had received and passed to their neighbor.

This game is often used to demonstrate why we shouldn’t gossip about people, however, there are many people who point to the game as an example to illustrate why they believe the Bible has changed over time. The notion is that over a period of more than two thousand years, errors and changes have crept into the Bible as it was copied and recopied from person to person. Over the period of two thousand years, these errors and changes have supposedly accumulated to a point where the stories in the Bible are no longer the same or even similar to the original events.

Fortunately, however, Continue reading

How to Become More Spiritual

In deep PrayerHave you ever wondered how to become more spiritual? To do so we have to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, which can often be perplexing to new Christians because there’s a very thin line between having a relationship with God and simply going through the motions.

Becoming more spiritual always starts with prayer. But reciting a prayer for the sake of reciting prayer does nothing toward having a relationship with God. You first have to believe He’s real and that he hears you. Then you pray to God with sincerity rather than praying at God as though reading a script.

What Does the Bible Say About Tattoos

What does the bible say about tattoos? Is it wrong for a Christian to get a tattoo?

Man with tattoos praying at church. What does the bible say about tattoos. There is only one instance in the entire Bible that mentions tattoos. It’s in the Old Testament in Leviticus chapter 19, but does it apply to us today?

Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard. Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD. (Leviticus 19:27-29)

Does the Bible Talk About Aliens

Does the Bible Talk About AliensOur galaxy is so huge it makes the Earth look like a grain of sand next to the Atlantic Ocean, and that’s just our galaxy. The universe has millions of galaxies. Astronomers are finding planets around distant stars all the time. As of the writing of this post some 854 planets have been discovered in our galaxy and more are being found all the time. Based solely on numbers, the likelihood that life exists on other planets is pretty high.

But does the Bible talk about aliens?

Christian dream interpretationYou had a really strange dream and are now trying to figure out what it means. Maybe you watched a scary movie before going to bed and elements of the movie appeared in your dream. Maybe you’ve been worrying about something and your concerns are manifesting themselves into your dreams. But maybe, just maybe, it’s God talking to you and He has an important message he wants to share with you.

We see in the Bible that God can use the time we’re asleep to talk to us through our dreams.
God warned Abimelech in a dream that Sarah was actually Abraham’s wife. (Genesis 20)

Proof of God

Proof of God – Is There Any?

Can proof of God be found by examining evidence?Among those people who don’t believe in God, many of them base their disbelief on there being no proof of God. They might make statements exclaiming that a lack of evidence proves there is no God.

But let’s take a look at the argument from the Christian point of view.

What Does It Mean To Be A Spiritual Person

What does it mean to be a spiritual personIn 2006, Dr. Margaret Paul, who holds a Ph.D. in psychology, wrote an article titled “What Does it Mean to Be a Spiritual Person?

The premise of her article is that “Being a spiritual person is synonymous with being a person whose highest priority is to be loving to oneself and others.”

She writes, “A spiritual person cares about people, animals, and the planet. A spiritual person knows that we are all One, and consciously attempts to honor this Oneness. A spiritual person is a kind person.”

However, her definition misses the point of Continue reading

What Does It Mean To Seek the Kingdom Of God

what does it mean to seek the kingdom of GodWhat does it mean to seek the kingdom of God?

Here’s a free book by A.W. Tozer called The Pursuit of God.

First of all, what is the kingdom of God? It’s heaven. People who want to go to heaven, seeks it. But, as the Bible describes, in order to get to heaven we must seek God. So when the Bible says, seek first the kingdom of heaven, it means seek after God.

Anyone who knows how to read, can choose to read a Bible. An Atheist can read a Bible. An agnostic can read a Bible. Even a pagan can read a Bible. In like manner, anyone can attend a church service, but it doesn’t mean they’re there seeking the kingdom of God.

Here’s an example to clarify my point: Just because a person walks into a pet store doesn’t mean they intend to purchase a puppy.

Going to church and reading the Bible are an important part of being a Christian, but the process of performing those activities doesn’t necessarily mean you are seeking God. What, then, does it mean to seek the kingdom of God?

Think about the time you first met, and started dating, your spouse. If you’re like most people he or she was all you could think about and you could hardly wait to see them again.

Think also about a time when you discovered a new interest or hobby. For example, when I first moved to a town near the beach I decided I wanted to start fishing. I went to the store with eagerness to purchase my fishing license. When I bought my surf fishing rod I was hugely excited. And when I caught my first fish I was practically jumping up and down.

So here’s the basic question: Are you excited about knowing Jesus? If the answer is “no”, or the answer is, “you’ve never thought about it that way before” than you have not been seeking the kingdom of God.

But if you want to start knowing Jesus and you want to become excited about knowing him, then the place to start is prayer. The next step after that would be to ask Jesus to show you a good church to attend. (How to find a church). And the step after that would be to begin reading the New Testament. And also of great importance is to begin forming friendships with people at church who are wiser and more spiritually mature than you are.

Seeking the kingdom of God is having a desire and determination to know Jesus Christ.

Do Good People Go To Heaven

Do good people go to heaven? The answer is no. Surprisingly, however, this is good news. It’s fortunate for us that getting into heaven is not about being a good person because all of us have, at one time or another, done things we’re not proud of. We’ve stolen, lied, cheated, hurt people, talked behind people’s backs, hated them unjustly, been filled with jealousy, etc, etc, on and on…

If getting into heaven were about being a good person, none of us would make it. Fortunately, however, God has set the standard for getting into heaven, and it’s not about what we do but about what He did.

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this
world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit
who is now at work in those who are disobedient.
All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the
cravings of our sinful nature and following its
desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects
of wrath.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in
mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in
transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved.
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in
the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
in order that in the coming ages he might show the
incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to
us in Christ Jesus.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and
this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God —
not by works, so that no-one can boast.
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do
good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:1-10)

Did Jesus Claim to Be God

Verses That Say Jesus Is God

Hosanna in the highestYes, Jesus did claim to be God, both during his physical life on Earth and, more pointedly, after his resurrection.

Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the
earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who
is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:7-8)

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough
for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I
have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has
seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, `Show us the
Father’? (John 14:8-9)

When God spoke to Moses at the burning bush He called himself I AM, and when Jesus confronted the Jews He also called himself I AM, which was Jesus directly claiming to be God.

Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to
them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they
ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are
to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:13-14)

“Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my
day; he saw it and was glad.”
“You are not yet fifty years old,” the Jews said to him, “and
you have seen Abraham!”
“I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was
born, I am!”
At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid
himself, slipping away from the temple grounds. (John 8:56-59)
