Our Father Prayer

New International Version

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever. Amen.” (Matthew 6:9-13 NIV)

King James Version

“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” (Matthew 6:9-13 kJV)

I’ve noticed that some versions of this prayer use the words “debts” and “debtors”, but I learned it as “trespasses” and “those who trespass against us”. Do you know the reasons for the different terms and how they relate to the original language of scripture?
